History of ShareCare

Staying healthy and active are worthy goals for people of all ages, and where better to do that than in one’s own home, in the beauty of Leelanau County.

In 1992 three forward thinking couples began the challenging task of creating a program that would achieve these goals and allow seniors to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. In 1994, ShareCare of Leelanau, Inc. became a non-profit Michigan corporation and was granted 501(c)3 status.

Twenty-one years ago the ShareCare concept was unique in the United States; today it stands as a well-established organization. With support from a diverse Board of Directors, a registered nurse Care Coordinator, and many dedicated volunteers, the Founders’ desire to promote the health and well-being of citizens of Leelanau County succeeds.
