Acts of Kindness

ShareCare's members graciously volunteer their time and energy to make life
better for fellow members. Here are a few examples of their selflessness:

bulletSharing and caring go both ways... A team of volunteer gardeners was put together for a member in the Glen Arbor area. After an afternoon of trimming bushes and pulling weeds, the volunteers were treated to ice cream from our member.
bulletNever underestimate the quality of the people with whom we share our daily lives. ShareCare members and citizens from the area have taken a fellow member under their wings... The member who is completely overwhelmed by a move to her son's house out east, has had many people stop in to offer support. Several neighbors have made sure she has food in the house and that she's eating properly. Some are sitting with her while the movers are there. One couple has offered to take her for lunch while another person is taking her for dinner. Several people have offered to have her stay at their house if her beds are packed. I know this member is physically and emotionally healthier as a result of the support she's been given.

Shopping Anyone?

Here is a story passed on to the SC office by our friend Barb. Thanks Barb!

Several years ago, a ShareCare member we'll call 'Lucy', was pretty weak from the advanced stages of brain disease, and not able to get out alone. One day she let it slip that the very most favorite thing she had loved to do and now greatly missed, was to…You guessed it!  Go Shopping!

It was no accident that a certain ShareCare nurse learned of Lucy's long squelched obsession and simply couldn't put the thought out of her mind.  She decided Lucy's secret wish must come true…. and so it did!

The day of the big outing started when Lucy's two companions came a bit early to help her dress.  They bundled her into the car, wheelchair and all, and off they went bubbling away about which stores they should attack.

The happy threesome shared giggles over items they saw and told each other stories of past buying sprees, but the greatest pleasure for Lucy's companions didn't come from a great sale or an irresistible shiny bauble in a window.  It came from the sparkling smile this very ill member had on her face when she waved goodbye to her shopping pals as they returned her smiling to her front door.
